Weird light

I love the golden light and ominous skies - the camera never quite captures it though.

Elsi Riaf

Or Fair Isle backwards* :-D. I find the reverse side of Fair Isle as interesting as the front.

*Thanks and apologies to Mr Andrew Halcrow as I nicked his meme for that joke.

Little geeks

The Boy playing on the 'puter, Miss Mouse spectating. Until she saw the camera, then the cheesy grin came out!

Sunday 25 January 2009

Macro

Didn't take any photographs during the day, but in the evening I was playing round with macro mode. This is the embroidery on our duvet cover!

Saturday 24 January 2009

Blue da ba dee

I went for a walk this afternoon - don't we get fantastically blue skies in winter? The sun came out at just the right moment and all the colours were so vivid. The rest of the sky was more ominous-looking.

Tricotage

Am watching QI which is on a theme of 'France' tonight, hence the Title. Anyway for lack of anything more exciting to photograph today, this is my hat. I've messed up the last row and will need to tink it.

Jellyfish

Actually my lovely beaded lamp, doing an impression of a jellyfish. It looks rather elegant as if it should be on an antique table of some kind, but actually it's perched on top of my scanner!

Minibeasts

The Boy has been learning about insects and minibeasts at school, and seemed quite interested so we dropped into the library on the way home and got a book on them. Then he drew this picture. He says he's going to give it to his friend William 'cos he likes spiders but I want to keep it and frame it - I love it!

Tuesday 20 January 2009

Bedraggled

Or perhaps 'windswept and interesting'!

This is how I looked after collecting the Boy from school - oh yes, another day of near-tropical sunshine. I try to convince myself..

For Seasons in One Day

It's been a funny sort of day..
This morning - damp, rain with a hint of sleet.
Take Miss M to nursery - sleet.
By the time I get out of the nursery - snow.
Lunchtime - rain, snow mostly melted.
Getting the Boy from school - bright sunshine.
Go over to friend's house over the road - clouding over.
Half an hour later - sleet.
5 mins later - snow.
15 minutes later - snowing heavily, decide to go and get Miss M before it gets completely dark.
On the way to the nursery - lots of snow, driving a little scarey on the sideroads and at junctions.
On the way back - driving now quite unnerving.
Get back - still snowing, kids all out, snowball fight ensues (6 kids, 3 mums)

World's teeniest snowman built by everybody except me, 'cos I was the only who didn't have gloves on. My friend's garden pretty much de-snowed in the process!

It was only quite a thin layer of snow but, good gravy, it was cold!

For Max!

Roast chicken tonight - that's the bread sauce of course.

For everybody else -

My Beloved cycled to the retail park today (six-ish miles) in the melting snow. Loony. I drove there to meet him, we did the shopping then both came back in the car. Good thing too as it was veering indecisively between sleet and hail by then ("Sleet or hail.. which is most unpleasant for the hoomins.."). Of course my car is covered in bike muck now, but at least he got some exercise.

Blue skies, nothin' but blue skies

Really vivid blue skies (though chilly) in the morning but it turned horrible later, windy, wet then snow.

Thursday 15 January 2009

I won!

A mug with spoon!

Tuesday 13 January 2009

Greeeeeeeeen

Snapped on the way to pick the Boy up from school - it was low, mellow sunlight so the colours were gorgeously rich.

Monday 12 January 2009

Manic Monday

Ha - you're all singing it now, aren't you?

The Boy looking very smart but just a little manic after school.

Sunday 11 January 2009

Beyond the Fringe

We're still growing out Miss Mouse's hair, so she appears to have a long fringe most of the time (in fact her real fringe is the right length, it's the longer crown hair flopping forward all the time). We're trying to get her used to hair clips and bands and so on, but they don't tend to stay in long. This is one of the rare times when she decided to leave the clip in.

Saturday 10 January 2009

The Fairy Godmother..

..has trouble getting herself ready for the ball, let alone Cinderella!

The fairy costume was a Christmas present - she is such a girlie (where does she get that from?) and loves it.

Friday 9 January 2009

A self-portrait

I was trying to photograph my scarf to put on Ravelry but it was a bit tricky - so here's a self-portrait, looking cold and tired!

Thursday 8 January 2009

Spectrum.

Almost too lovely to use. What shall I paint?

Wednesday 7 January 2009

Pottering around

'Scuse the mess!

Tuesday 6 January 2009

Panic!

Last thing at night and photos! So.. 'The Bedside Table', complete with Dora the Explorer stickers and a random Lego window.

Monday 5 January 2009

Baubles

Packing them away again.

Edit: hmm, seems my photos are misnumbered and 'baubles' is from Sunday. Rather than move it round I'll just add one for Monday!

This is the first bit of Fair Isle I ever did - in about Primary 6, so when I was about ten. The tension was way too tight on the green bits, but it's a cute little bag and I use it to keep knitting bits and pieces in (stitch markers and the like).

Sunday 4 January 2009

Silhouette

I'm annoyed with myself for not framing this picture better - would have been nice if the whole tree were shown.

Saturday 3 January 2009

Christmas part 3

This is over at Matt's house - the exchange of presents for that part of the family. The room looked lovely and cosy, though slightly taken over by the vast pile of presents!

Friday 2 January 2009

The voyage home

But before departure there's time for a drink and a brownie and a conversation with Granny. (Ravellers - Granny is wearing her Christmas present, 'Fetching' but without thumbs).

Setting off - very pretty, in a chilly way.

Snow gates on the A9.

A bit further down the road. I love the hills, they look so naked.
